| Book Fair |
|
The book fair promotes reading with the
purchase of books for home use. It also raises funds for the purchase of
books for the school Media Center. The book fair is usually held
during parent conference week.

| Father/Daughter Dance |
|
The dance takes place in the school cafeteria.
Music is provided by a D.J., decorations are displayed, refreshments are
provided, and photos are taken. Daughters attend with a father,
grandfather, uncle, stepfather, or anyone else who serves as a father
figure.

| Mother/Son Dance |
|
The dance takes place in the school cafeteria.
Music is provided by a D.J., decorations are displayed, refreshments are
provided, and photos are taken. Sons attend with a mother,
grandmother, aunt, stepmother, or anyone else who serves as a mother figure.

|
| International Night |
|
This event is held in the spring in the school cafeteria.
Our families attend this gathering to network, obtain community resource
information, and learn more about parental involvement in the school and within the PTA.
It will also be a time to learn about other cultures represented within our school.

|
| Hospitality |
|
This committee is responsible for creating a friendly,
comfortable atmosphere at PTA meetings and events. Persons serving on
this committee help create a sense of belonging that invites members to
become involved in PTA activities. The committee chairperson attends
PTA board meetings and reports on hospitality plans for upcoming PTA events.

| Membership |
|
The membership committee
encourages PTA membership by conducting membership drives throughout the
year. The committee issues membership cards, collects membership fees, and
regularly provides membership reports at each board and general PTA
meetings.

|
| Nominating |
|
This committee of at least 7 PTA members is appointed at
the PTA general membership meeting in February. The nominating committee
selects one eligible person for each PTA office to be filled and reports at
the general PTA meeting in March.

|
|
| Parent/Family Involvement |
|
The parent/family involvement committee implements and
understands the National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement and the
components and model of Building Successful Partnerships. In addition,
this committee shares information about cooperating agencies that provide
services to families.
|

|
|
|
Publications/Communications |
|
This committee is responsible for maintaining the PTA
bulletin board, sending the newsletter home to parents, and providing
information to the website coordinator. This involves a year-round
commitment with short bursts of activity.

|
| Red Ribbon Week |
|
Red Ribbon Week is a observed nationally every year.
During this week in October, students all over the country make pledges to
live drug and alcohol free. PTA members working on this committee are
responsible for working with the school counselors on a week's theme and
daily activities that will encourage children to live free of drugs and
alcohol.

|
| Reflections |
|
This committee is responsible for coordinating,
collecting, and organizing student entries for Reflections, a cultural arts
program sponsored by the National PTA. The Reflections program is
available to students who attend a school with a PTA/PTSA in good standing.
Students may submit entries in literature, musical composition, photography,
dance choreography, and film/video production. The National PTA does
not limit the number of entries that a student may submit.

| School Shirts |
|
The PTA funds school shirts and sells them each year
to students, parents, staff, and the community. Persons working on
this committee are responsible for ordering shirts and selling them to
bring income to the PTA in order to fund additional PTA programs.
Shirts are usually sold at PTA membership drives, PTA meetings, and orders
can be taken by teachers.

| Stevi B's Night |
|
Every 1st Tuesday of the
month, the PTA sponsors a night of dining at a local pizza buffet restaurant in Austell.
Families are encouraged to come out to eat and meet other Birney families. Students wearing the Stevi
B's sticker receive 2 tokens for the game room.
The classroom with the most students attending win a classroom pizza party.

This committee creates, inputs, and maintains a PTA website,
independent of the school website.
